2018 marked another-record breaking year. Deadly wildfires. Intensified hurricanes. Rising sea levels. Warming global temperatures. Droughts. Floods. Famine. Extinction. Across the world, 2018 brought life-altering environmental crises that are only projected to get worse in the years to come.
But you already know this.
This is the same story journalists and climate experts have reported for decades. You understand that climate change is real. You know the crises are urgent. You don’t need another record-breaking statistic or apocalyptic prediction. But rather, a place to start.
Climate change is complex. But the answer is simple: Action.
We’ve been a global leader in the fight against environmental issues since 2002. We’ve seen firsthand how a single collective action by a dedicated group of people can create a world of difference.
Since our inception 17 years ago, we’ve directed over $200 million to environmental nonprofits. But, we didn’t do it alone. That $200 million represents the thousands of business members, donors and individuals that have stepped up in support of our planet. It’s responsible businesses and individuals giving back. It’s conscious consumers who purchase for the planet. It’s donors that make their money matter. It’s our nonprofit partners going to work. It’s our dedicated network collectively taking action.
We’re proud of this number, but we hope to look back on $200 million as just the start of something much bigger. Because, the issues facing our planet need so much more than that.
As a network of doers, we don’t dwell on discouraging reports. We act, knowing that is the only possible solution to our problem.
Throughout this year, we’re going to take you through actions that embody our network’s core values and represent what we all do to drive positive change. We’re kicking off 2019 with our first call to action: simplify.
We’ve simplified giving back to the environment. 1% for the Planet creates a way that every day, every person has the opportunity to make a difference. Our solutions are simple, accessible, and most importantly, effective.
